As many people have found, caricatures do make wonderful gift ideas for many a special occasion - or as a piece of eye catching original artwork for promotional use in business cards or brochures.
I have two different ranges of caricature study options to choose from:
1. You can either have yourself, a friend, or family member, rendered in a complimentarily quirky action scene of your own choosing by joining the 'Groovy Toons' caricature portraits range -
or;
2. You could have your very own home-sweet-home, place of study, or workplace, be given a delightfully cheery cartoon make-over by getting on down to the 'Funky Town' portraits range.
My full-figure 'Groovy Toons' caricatures are quite a notable departure from the usual large head / small body cartoons favoured by so many of today's caricaturists. I have a particular preference in portraying my subjects in a more flattering, likeness-orientated, comic strip style image that evokes a more exciting action hero theme!
My 'Funky Town' range of caricatures is a pretty unique service not practiced generally by many other cartoonists - this is a uniquely brilliant chance for you to take yourself down to 'Funky Town' for the most exclusive, fun portraits available of your home or workplace that will most assuredly look great in any hallway, dining room or study.
There are two sizes - and three finishes - generally available for either of these services:
The two sizes I work to in most cases are;
A4 (21cm x 30cm) and
A3 (30cm x 42cm)
However, this is only a rough guide to indicate how the prices range - with these two examples as the starting point.
I am more than happy to work to any specification required for the task.
The surfaces I most favour to work on are;
Watercolour Paper or Card (approximately 200-300gsm) and
Canvas - starting from a size slightly smaller than A3 (29cm x 40cm) and up.
I generally use Card for images that require more intricately detailed, smoother lines in the rendering,
while, for a more textured and prestigious finish - with the freedom of a looser style, I prefer the Watercolour Paper.
For true flourish, however, I enjoy the much bolder approach and finish offered when working on canvas.
My technique is largely ink-based line drawing finished in grey tone - or colour acrylic.
I find requests for either black and white with tone or full colour portraits will usually be a style choice for most clients rather than an issue of cost, which, given the amount of work required to do both black and white with tone or full colour being near enough the same, there is subsequently little difference in the overall production cost.
The price range for both 'Groovy Toons' or 'Funky Town' caricatures is:
Watercolour Paper or Card;
A4 - Black and white, single-figure with a few props / or single building; £65
A4 - Full colour, single-figure with a few props/ or single building; £75
A3 - Black and white, single-figure with a few props/ or single building; £90
A3 - Full colour, single figure with a few props / one single building; £100
Canvas (A3 approx.);
Black and white, single figure with a few props / one single building; £100
Full colour, single figure with a few props / one single building; £110
Any additional figures required in the drawing, as in a couple or group, or a separate extra building, is £20 extra per person - or building. Essentially, the more elements included in a portrait will require a little more work.
I ask for only 50% initial payment up front when you place your order with me and payment can be made by cheque or Direct Debit Bank Transfer. Paypal is also an option for those who prefer that method.
The remaining 50% is payable once the finished artwork is ready to send to you.
All I will need to start the job will be about 2 or 3 clear photographs of your chosen subject to work from and a description of your requirements.
In the case of photos required for a 'Groovy Toons' caricature it would be helpful for the subject in the photos to be smiling in at least one of the pictures - and one or two full-figure images from different angles would be a good idea also to help give a true idea of stature and general look.
We can discuss, via any of the options on the CONTACT ME page, what sort of action scene you'd like me to put your subject into - maybe something along the lines of a job or hobby they are involved in - and the sort of clothes and props they would require - and then I will work out a preliminary pencil sketch I can forward to you by email for you to approve and suggest any alterations or additions to at that stage.
Once your final approval has been made I will commence the finished artwork.
I will normally need approximately 2 - 3 weeks to undertake the work, though this can be much quicker, depending on the volume of work I am doing at the time.
I send all artwork flat in card-reinforced envelopes and via Recorded Delivery, which is included in the cost of the commission.

For stronger protection and a more complete presentation I can also provide a frame for your finished artwork should you so desire. This would be in the style shown in the picture above, either in wood, as seen here, or plain white. The charge for this is dependent on the size of the frame required and whatever extra cost it will be for the postage and packing of that item at the time. I will be happy to discuss those details with you during the consultation.
