Hello and welcome to Mark Wayne Barrett - Illustrator, a website and portfolio showcasing some of the illustrative work I have produced over time for various projects and commissions, ranging from storybook illustration and CD covers to caricatures and murals.
My preferred area of speciality is the vivid and vibrant style of comic strip, cartoon and caricature art - where the emphasis is rooted firmly in the genre's flair for bold expressions, dynamic action and fun !
I like to create striking images that convey a quintessentially classic, mid-20th century, English Comic Strip energy and style.

As many people have found, caricatures do make wonderful gift ideas for many a special occasion - or as a piece of eye catching original artwork for promotional use in business cards or brochures.
I have two different ranges of caricature study options to choose from:
1. You can either have yourself, a friend, or family member, rendered in a complimentarily quirky action scene of your own choosing by joining the 'Groovy Toons' caricature portraits range -
or;
2. You could have your very own home-sweet-home, place of study, or workplace, be given a delightfully cheery cartoon make-over by getting on down to the 'Funky Town' portraits range.

Another line of work I have enjoyed a lot over the years has been the opportunity to create amazing, wonderful murals by commission.
Work undertaken in that line has ranged from simple bedroom wall decorations to school playground and community centre youth projects.
Frequently asked for subjects often include popular characters and landscapes from favourite cartoons, films, television programmes and books.
There is also a growing trend currently for garden mural decorations, people wishing to turn drab garden fences and garage walls into decorative works of art, with themes such as large beautiful flowers and wildlife to help keep gardens colourful and bright all year round.

My favourite genre of art has always been Storybook Illustration - artwork indelibly imbued with fascinating characters in curious landscapes, living out fantastic adventures on personal quests, however epic or humble.
I enjoy immensely the process of creating people and worlds through drawing and writing and portraying their stories in exciting and vibrant imagery that leaps from the page.

From my own storybook projects I will soon be making available fine art prints and hand-coloured paintings for sale of action scenes taken from the tales of 'The Hair Raising Adventures of Dan Druff' and 'The Uncovered Journals of Lucy Langford'.
Currently I have a few hand-coloured Dr Who prints from the comic strip 'Conquest of the Daleks' that I did for a local Dr Who fan magazine. In time these will be replaced by artwork taken from the new adventures I am now working on for my own on-line comic Raven Mad.
